COVID-19 Updates

To our Aravaipa Community,

This page will serve as the source for updates regarding our events as we all navigate the coronavirus / COVID-19 situation unfolding globally and in our communities. We understand we all want to hit the trails together, but in light of recent events unfolding this is a dynamic situation and the health and safety of our participants, staff, volunteers and community is paramount. We appreciate your understanding as we all move forward in these uncertain times.

Please scroll to the bottom of this page for the latest on each event.

The current status of individual events including postponements or cancellations will be updated below. Some events may be modified in ways (wave starts, rolling starts, dispersed finish experience etc) in order to safely hold them. We are in communications with our local permitting agencies as well as monitoring the situation in each state we operate (Arizona, Colorado & Utah) on how to best offer these experiences.

In the case that we do need to cancel or postpone an event either through our assessment of providing a safe experience or through the direction of our permitting agencies, we will update the sections below and communicate to all entrants as soon as we have the information.

We have some new standards that will relate to all Aravaipa events going forward for the foreseeable future. This may be a way of life for some time as this virus is active in our communities so this is mostly a general precaution. More aggressive steps may be required at individual events to allow us to get out on the trails while looking after our collective health and safety as a community. These will be updated as appropriate:

  • We are changing the way our food is offered to provide a “single Touch” approach. Plan on extra time at aid stations for this measure or bring your own nutrition to bypass.
  • We are asking all runners to remove their own lids/open their own hydration bladders to allow our volunteers to pour liquids into them from our pitchers that will be cleaned regularly.
  • All volunteers handling food will in addition to utilizing hand wash stations will wear gloves at all times.
  • We will have wave starts or rolling window start times for distances to increase social distancing. We understand we often spread out on the trails, but want to minimize that at the start line.
  • We encourage more self sufficiency. If you have your own nutrition and can carry more water, this will reduce the need for stops at aid stations.
  • Our finish line experience will be minimized in this time period. We ask you not to congregate in larger groups and instead enjoy the rest of your day at the parks in a more secluded setting or head home to rest and recover.
  • Although we love handshakes and high fives, we will use other forms of non-touch interactions for the time being. Please do not put others in an uncomfortable situation whom may be at higher risk and choosing not to high five, etc.
  • Digital communication including race briefings will be available online in advance of your event about specifics for each event.
  • Hours of on site bib pickup may be extended to reduce crowding or bibs may be mailed in advance depending on the race.

Additionally, please follow these overall health and hygiene recommendations:

  • If you are not feeling well, have a fever or cough or have been potentially exposed to an infectious disease, please do not attend the event. This goes for participants, volunteers, as well as spectators. Seek medical attention and follow the advice of your local health authority.
  • Regularly wash you hand with soap and water or use an alcohol based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Practice good hygiene in case you cough or sneeze by doing so in your elbow or a tissue that you dispose of.
  • When waiting in lines for restroom or bib pickup, please keep in mind social distancing.

If you would like to take advantage of our withdrawal policy at any point in time please refer to our FAQ Page for further information on that. In case of a postponement or cancellation, we will reach out to registered entrants with options beyond that of our typical withdrawal policy.

We appreciate you joining Aravaipa and if you have any questions at any time you can direct them to either myself personally jamil@aravaiparunning.com or Hayley Pollack, hayley@aravaiparunning.com.

Sincerely,

Jamil Coury
